Queensborough Celebrates Asian American and Pacific Islander Month 2025

AAPI Month

Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Month is a month-long celebration honoring the history, culture, and achievements of Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders. It occurs every May; however, at Queensborough, we recognize it in April. With classes ending in mid-May and many members of the campus involved in end-of-the-semester commitments, we intentionally choose to celebrate in April to ensure the month receives the dedication and recognition it deserves. This month, we are excited to celebrate with those in our community who identify as Asian American and Pacific Islander.

AAPI Month, which began as Asian/Pacific American Heritage Week in 1979, became a month-long observance in 1992. May was selected to honor the arrival of the first Japanese immigrants to the United States on May 7, 1843, and to celebrate the transcontinental railroad's completion on May 10, 1869. Most of the laborers who constructed the railroad were Chinese immigrants.*
