As a Queensborough student you will focus your education in one of our eight Queensborough Academies.
Studying in the Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Academy you will learn from professors who are passionate about their subjects – and your future. The Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Academy provides undergraduate resources, industry-level technology and state-of-the-art lab equipment for a modern and efficient approach to preparing professional technicians and engineers. Science, Technology, Engineering & Math are four words that spell high demand in the workplace!
Faculty-led opportunities include service-learning and undergraduate research experiences as well as the potential for internships and participation in academic conferences resulting in a more focused, impactful education.
From the moment you step onto our campus, you are paired with a personal Queensborough Academy Adviser dedicated to helping you reach your academic and career goals. Your Academy Adviser will guide you through course selection, help you understand degree requirements, assist with career planning and support you through your entire time at Queensborough.
Within your Queensborough Science, Technology, Engineering & Math (STEM) Academy, you will have the opportunity to connect in-class learning with real-world experiences while receiving the highest quality education for your chosen STEM career.
QCC students may choose between A.A. and A.S. degree programs which are designed to prepare you for transfer to a four-year college or university or an A.A.S. degree which are designed to prepare you for immediate entry into the workforce. A.A. and A.S. degree graduates will be able to complete a bachelor’s degree in the same field in an additional two years after transfer. A.A.S. degree graduates may also transfer but may require three years of additional study at the 4-year institution to complete the bachelor’s degree.
Degree maps are available for each degree program on its page below. The maps, which were developed by your faculty members, recommend which courses should be taken each semester to complete the degree program in two years. Your adviser can also help you select courses each semester. We recommend that you meet with your advisor every semester.
Associate in Science (A.S.)
Biology
The Associate in Science degree program in Biology offers students interested in careers in biological sciences and professional medical fields an opportunity to complete the first two years of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree.
Biotechnology Dual Joint with York
Leading to B.S. in Biotechnology at York College
This program will equip students with the knowledge and skills required to succeed as technicians in the modern biotechnology environment and provide QCC graduates with seamless transfer to the BS program at York College. Course study is complemented by hands-on internships and field experiences with local partners such as the FDA, Stony Brook University, and Albert Einstein Medical College.
Chemistry Dual Joint with York
Leading to B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences at York College
Armed with an A.S. in Chemistry, you can transfer to York College to complete a B.S. in Pharmaceutical Sciences. Our education can open doors to growing career opportunities in the local economy including the biomedical and personal care industries and food and health related manufacturing. Computer Science
The last few decades have witnessed an extraordinary surge of the use of computers in many if not most aspects of our lives. A high need for computer scientists has led to high salaries in the field. The Associate in Science degree program in Computer Science will provide students with strong foundations in the field of computer science that is needed to prepare them for the B.S. in Computer Science they need to secure those jobs.
Computer Science and Information Security
Protecting the security and integrity of computer data and systems is ever-more vital for businesses and organizations worldwide, and demand for qualified cybersecurity specialists is growing. Graduates of the Associate in Science degree program in Computer Science and Information Security are prepared for transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice to complete a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree in Computer Science and Information Security.
Engineering Science
Everywhere you look, you see engineering at work – bridges, buildings, space ships, cell phones, and more. This math and science-based program gives you the foundation you need for transfer with advanced standing to a bachelor’s degree program in Engineering.
Environmental Science
Graduates of the Associate in Science degree program in Environmental Science are prepared for transfer to a four-year college to complete a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree that is essential for most types of employment in this field. QCC students will be offered the opportunity to obtain the A.S.. Degree with a concentration in Environmental Science.
Forensic Science Dual Joint with John Jay
Leading to B.S. in Forensic Science at John Jay College of Criminal Justice
Recent advances in chemistry, biology and computer science have created new opportunities in fields such as forensic science and criminalistics. This program provides a science-based foundation for students to transfer to John Jay College of Criminal Justice (minimum GPA of 2.5 required) and receive their Bachelor of Science degree.
Liberal Arts and Sciences (Mathematics and Science)
The AS degree prepares you to transfer with advanced standing to baccalaureate in science programs (BS), leading to careers in science, mathematics, education, computer science, and the health sciences.

Mathematics
Many careers today require a solid background in mathematics. Employers want workers with varying degrees of math ability for the fields of data science, machine learning, business, medicine and science, technology, human services, and others. Our associate degree in mathematics equips students with the mathematical and computing training needed to be competitive in today’s digital world and serves a solid foundation for a wide range of careers.
Physics
The Associate in Science degree program in Physics offers students interested in careers in physics and applied physics the ability to complete the first two years of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree in the field.
Psychology
Graduates of the Associate in Science degree program in Psychology are prepared for transfer to a four-year college to complete a bachelor’s degree (B.A. or B.S.) that is essential for most types of employment in this field. Graduates can pursue a wide range of career options including psychology, human services, and social services.
Associate in Applied Science (A.A.S.)
Architectural Technology
Do you have strong analytical, practical and visual skills? Prepare for drafting and design careers, -- engineering drafters, associate designers, detailers, technical illustrators, architectural drafters and CAD operators. The Architectural Technology program prepares men and women for drafting and design careers in all phases of industry.
Computer Engineering Technology
Fascinated by computers and their critical role in our lives? Become a computer programmer or technician, a technical sales representative, or a LAN technician. Gain the education, the technical skills, and the “hands-on experience” through internships and cooperative education projects and be ready for the job market and/or move toward a Bachelor of Engineering Technology.
Cybersecurity
Cybersecurity is an area of computer technology that is focused upon the protection of electronic data and data services from malicious attacks. This field addresses a global concern for the secure management, preservation, and delivery of verified digital information. The Cybersecurity A.A.S. degree program provides students with an applied understanding of the fundamentals of securing computer networks, operating systems, cloud technologies, computer programming, and ethical hacking.
Electronic Engineering Technology
Graduates are competent technicians prepared with problem-solving skills, a strong technical foundation, and the mathematics and science education needed to enter the field of electrical technology. Graduates may also transfer into the junior year of a bachelor’s program in engineering technology.
Internet and Information Technology
Go where the future is with this program that combines learning of technology, art, music, and writing. Gain valuable skills in communications, programming, artistic layout and design, and animation. A cooperative education component puts you in the work place for college credit.
Mechanical Engineering Technology
Do you see yourself at work in the space program, missile development, air and water pollution control, robotics or high speed railway equipment development? Learn in classrooms and labs that contain the same equipment as those found in industry. Graduates face strong employment opportunities as well as the possibility of transfer into a mechanical engineering degree program.
Telecommunications Technology
Find a career in communications through the study of electronics, computers, and networks. Gain the education so you are ready to solved problems involving complete voice, video and data networks. Some students go on to study for a Bachelor’s in Engineering Technology.
Certificate Program
Internet and Information Technology
For those seeking immediate employment in a burgeoning field or for professionals currently in the field who wish to enhance job skills, the certificate program offers training and education for students with varied interests, backgrounds, and preparation. Using an integrated, interdisciplinary approach, the program combines instruction in technology, art, and writing, providing valuable skills in communication, programming, database and e-commerce, artistic layout and design, and animation.
Radiation Safety
The Radiation Safety Certificate Program provides students with a foundation in the principles of radiation and radiation protection. This program is most relevant to those seeking eventual employment as a radiological control technician at places that generate or incorporate radioactive materials, such as nuclear power plants, national laboratories, research centers, or medical facilities. The Certificate Program includes one-year courses in English Composition, General Chemistry, College Physics, and Radiation Safety. The Radiation Safety courses have lecture and laboratory components that provide students with specialized instruction and hands-on training in radiation detection and contamination control.
