Pre-requisites (if any): CIS-101 and students must complete any developmental requirements in Mathematics (see Proficiency in Math and English) prior to taking this course. Offered in Spring.
Course Description in college catalog:
Students will apply spreadsheet concepts to real-world business situations and strengthen their ability to analyze business problems, examine alternative solutions, and implement solutions using software. Topics include spreadsheet design, efficient/effective data handling, computational analysis, decision support, graphs, templates and macros, advanced statistical, financial, and database functions, use of data tables, logical functions and formulas and lookup tables.

Course-specific student learning outcomes:
Students will achieve the following course objectives:
- To introduce the student to the most popular electronic spreadsheet available.
- To provide a complete educational environment for learning Microsoft Excel.
- The textbook has been approved by Microsoft as a study guide for the Microsoft Office User Specialist (MOS) Expert exam for Excel.
- To teach the fundamentals of:
- Managing financial data
- Creating, editing and formatting worksheets
- Working with charts and graphics
- Working with Excel lists and pivot tables
- Working with multiple worksheets and workbooks
- Using one and two variable data tables
- Using Goal Seek and Solver
- Using Lookup functions
- Creating macros using Macro Recorder
- Importing data
- To develop critical thinking skills in problem solving.
- To become a “power user” – one who can select the most efficient approach to completing a task by choosing from keyboard shortcuts, menus, dialogue boxes and toolbar buttons.
