Kebedech Tekleab will introduce the Welcome Read text, While the Earth Sleeps We Travel: Stories, Poetry, and Art from Young Refugees Around the World, as part of the program's kick-off lecture series. She will share her own experience as a refugee from Ethopia.

Kebedech Tekleab is a published poet, painter, sculptor, and installation artist. She teaches in the Art & Design department at Queensborough Community College.
