Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) is an annual observance on or near November 20 that honors the memory of the transgender people whose lives were lost in acts of anti-transgender violence.
Transgender Day of Remembrance (TDOR) was started in 1999 by transgender advocate Gwendolyn Ann Smith as a vigil to honor the memory of Rita Hester, a transgender woman who was killed in 1998. The vigil commemorated all the transgender people lost to violence since Rita Hester's death, and began an important tradition that has become the annual Transgender Day of Remembrance.
The Ally LGBTQ+ Club will once again be performing QCC's "Reading of the Name" / "Say Their Names" for Transgender Awareness Week. Reading of the names
We remember the names of the transgender people whose lives have been lost to anti-transgender violence over the years and continue to demand increased and accurate media coverage of transgender people in their lives and in death. These are the names of transgender people we know of whose lives have been taken due to anti-transgender violence, but should be noted that these crimes often are misreported, go under-reported, or are not reported at all.
