Rose-Leanne Constant '15

Since she was a student at John Bowne High School, Rose-Leanne Constant ‘15 had dreams of going into law enforcement. In pursuit of those dreams, she enrolled at QCC in the summer of 2013 as a Criminal Justice major. This past summer she continued advancements of her career endeavors by participating in the NYPD Partners in Education Program working in the highway safety office at the 111 Precinct.

“My job was to enter accident reports into the computer database along with summonses that were issued the previous day,” Constant explains. She also learned how to do fingerprinting, something she’d never done before. “The hardest part of the internship was trying to stay awake and trying not to make a mistake.”

While this was just her first internship, Constant says that she enjoyed the experience. “I’m really glad to have received help getting this internship from the Office of Career Services and I would advise fellow students to take advantage of the opportunity as well. I’d say try to get an internship specifically in the field that you are interested in so that you can determine whether you really want to go in that direction or not.”

By registering for a Cooperative Education class and fulfilling the necessary requirements, Constant earned three college credits toward her Associate degree after completing the internship. She’s currently participating in the program once more this fall and will earn an additional three credits.

After she graduates from QCC, Constant will continue her studies at John Jay College of Criminal Justice. She says that “the idea of helping people, saving lives, and the fact that I know someday I could make a difference in someone’s life is what inspired me to go into law enforcement.”

In addition to her growing list of professional experiences, Constant is also a member of the QCC Accelerated Study in Associate Programs (ASAP) and Mock Trial Association. She is fluent in both French and Haitian Creole, and likes to read and write.
