Dr. Franca Ferrari-Bridger was born in Milan, Italy. She holds a Master’s degree in Hispano-American languages and literatures (1995) from the Università Statale, Milan, Italy, and a Master’s degree in Linguistics (1998) from the Freie Universitaet, Berlin, Germany. In 1998 she moved to the Unites States and in 2005 she received a Ph.D. in Theoretical Linguistics from New York University and in 2016 she completed a Master’s degree in Experimental Psychology at Brooklyn College CUNY.
Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers’ research interests are in the field of linguistics, psycholinguistics, listening assessments, pedagogical research in high impact practices and in higher education in prison.
In collaboration with other QCC faculty members Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers has been leading several educational programs in state and federal prisons. From 2012 to 2014 Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers collaborated through different serving learning projects with Otisville Federal Correctional Facility. In 2014, she was awarded by the Department of Justice and Otisville Correctional for her work at the facility.
Since 2015 Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers has been conducting a series of college preparatory and high school equivalency exam workshops at Edgecombe correctional facility. In 2016, Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers was awarded volunteer of the year by the New York State Department of Correction for her work at Edgecombe. Just recently in collaboration with the playwright, Julian Jimenez, Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers has started a new educational program in theatrical narratives at Rikers Island for young men and women.
In her free time Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers enjoys running, volunteering and listening to rap music.
