The Inaugural Faculty Fellow for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusivity works with the Office of Academic Affairs on:
- Programming related to issues of DEI at QCC and CUNY
- Making recommendations related to developing curricula that are inclusive and anti-racist, and that reflect the rich cultural and socioeconomic heterogeneity of our student population
- Serving as a mentor to junior faculty of color
- Ensuring that issues of diversity, equity, and inclusivity are addressed in the Office of Academic Affairs and in the programs and courses it offers.
Curriculum Support in DEI
A campus-wide task force collaborated to curate discipline-specific best practices in antiracist pedagogy focusing on truth, voice, and representation in arts & humanities, STEM, and social sciences. The guidelines include resources and suggestions for evaluating teaching, along with definitions of terms relevant to antiracist pedagogy. Through the guidelines, the college has now defined for itself what pedagogy means at the institution.
The guide serves as a tool for our campus as we examine more modern, culturally relevant approaches to pedagogy in the pursuit of excellence in teaching. Members of the task force will serve as liaisons in their respective disciplines to help guide and support colleagues and departments interested in implementing any of the suggested strategies.
As we continue to develop these guidelines, we hope to provide more opportunities for faculty and staff to learn more strategies and find more resources for implementation.

Programs/Lectures in DEI
The Thriving in Academia lecture series supports junior faculty members as they navigate the roadmap of academe at QCC through targeted lectures and mini workshops. The conversations in the series center the voices of experts in their fields, who are BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). The lectures focus on academic, personal, and professional goals and provide tools and advice focusing on the unique experiences of faculty of color, as they progress toward tenure and promotion. The lectures in the series were recorded in Fall 2021, Spring 2021, and Spring 2022.
The goal of the series is to focus on the retention, recruitment, and satisfaction of underrepresented members of our community by presenting opportunities for growth, support, and mentoring.
Thriving in Academia is sponsored by the Office of Academic Affairs
The series is now available in symposium format here:

Mentoring and Faculty Development in DEI
The Office of Academic Affairs is proud to announce our membership in the National Center for Faculty Diversity and Development (NCFDD). This membership is made possible by a CUNY OAA mini-grant and with support of our president, Dr. Christine Mangino, who matched the funds. We especially hope that this membership will be of additional support to mid-career faculty seeking promotion.
Queensborough is the first community college to become a member of NCFDD.
