Alison Cimino teaches composition and creative writing at Queensborough Community College. For several years, she facilitated poetry workshops for educators through Lesley University’s Education Program, Division of Creative Arts in Learning. Her creative work and teaching are informed by contemplative education and arts integrated learning. Through mindfulness, students are encouraged to create meaning by noticing their thoughts, thus learning how to trust their own observations when reading and writing. Arts integrated learning incorporates various art modalities such as music, drama, visual arts, movement, and poetry into instruction to offer students multiple entries to reading and writing.
Alison serves as the co-faculty advisor to the Creative Writing Club on campus. Additionally, she volunteers for The College Justice Program, where she teaches poetry at Edgecombe Correctional Facility.
