Masters in English Literature, CUNY Queens College

I have been a part of Queensborough Community College since 2010, when I began working in the Academic Literacy Learning Center. During my time there, I had the privilege to serve in many roles including in-class assistant and workshop facilitator. After completing my Master’s degree in English Literature from CUNY Queens College, I taught various remedial reading and composition courses to prepare students for the CUNY exit exams. In the Spring of 2016, I began teaching ALP-Freshman Composition, a course designed for students still in need of completing their developmental writing or reading work while taking English 101. Currently, I teach various courses as a Lecturer for the English Department.

In addition to developing innovative curriculum and pedagogical strategies, my interests include Postcolonial Literature and African-American Literature, particularly from the Harlem Renaissance.

Teaching Philosophy

I believe it is important to encourage students to explore the world around them and discover new ideas and spaces. This helps students make connections between what they encounter outside of the classroom and what they are learning in the classroom, enriching their learning experience. Providing an environment where students feel safe to share those experiences, offer opinions and make mistakes, helps them become critical thinkers and confident writers.
