Education:
MA, Creative Writing, Hofstra University; BA, English, Queens College
Teaching Philosophy:
I believe that the most successful classes foster mutual respect between students and faculty while encouraging students to become creative and critical readers, to engage in a dialogue with texts and to use writing as a means of discovery and inquiry.
Activities & Interests:
A native New Yorker, I’ve been a part of CUNY for over 20 years, starting as an undergraduate student at Queens College. At Queens, I discovered my passion for writing and teaching in my roles as a teacher’s assistant, research associate and administrator. After working as a projects coordinator for the Office of Undergraduate Studies and Retention, I pursued my interests in film-making, studying film production at New York University. Interestingly enough, in those long hours serving as a sound and editing assistant on various films, I realized the immense value and beauty of the written word. I entered graduate school and, after graduating, began teaching at QCC in 2005.
Publications:
My most recent publications include a series of poems in the journal Prosopisia. Also, I served as a coordinator and editor of a year-long project in conjunction with the Sky Light Psychiatric Center and QCC students. This unique project resulted in the production of the oral histories of more than a dozen Sky Light members. The oral histories were posted on the Sky Light Center’s website and used to advocate for the rights of people with psychiatric disabilities and gain additional public funding for the center. Currently, I’m working on my first novel.
