Miscellaneous Updates

  1. The committee agrees that the primary goal is to keep the community informed with up-to-date technology information.
  2. A committee member will continue to attend the Technology Fee Committee meetings.
  3. Anuradha proposed establishing subcommittees within the main committee. Each subcommittee would be responsible for a specific task to be accomplished this semester.

Follow up on Possible Student Survey

  1. Regarding the student or campus survey, Anuradha noted that participation rates are typically low. It was suggested that this committee collaborate with the e-Learning Committee and the Brightspace website to increase survey engagement and gather more results.
  2. Once the survey results are collected, the committee plans to analyze them and publish an article in the spring 2025 issue of the committee newspaper.

Thoughts on the Next Newsletter

Jonggu shared the issues his students have encountered while using the Brightspace (BrS) platform. Committee members discussed these challenges, and the following topics were proposed for future articles in the committee newspaper:

  1. For students primarily relying on smartphones for online studying, guidance on how to submit documents on BrS. This could include instructions on converting Google Docs to PDF files for Turnitin submissions on BrS.
  2. The committee could consider contacting the IT team that manages BrS to gather the most common complaints and questions they’ve received so far. This information would make for an informative and engaging article in the newsletter.
  3. For students unable to afford a new laptop, QCC offers laptops for rent. The committee is interested in gathering data on the number of laptops available and how many have already been rented. Jonggu volunteered to visit the library and collect this information.

Recruiting New Student Member

  • Anuradha volunteered to contact Lauren to inquire if there are any students available to join the committee as the student representative for the fall 2024 semester.

AI in the Classroom

  1. Anuradha informed the committee that the winter 2025 faculty retreat will feature a panel discussion on AI in the classroom.
  2. Anuradha encouraged committee members to attend the discussion, as it could serve as valuable material for future newspaper articles.
  3. The panel will cover topics such as how students can use AI to enhance their learning experience.
  4. A survey will be conducted during the panel discussion, and Anuradha will have access to the survey data. The committee can analyze the data and consider publishing the findings in a future issue of the newspaper.

Formation and Responsibilities of the Subcommittee

  • Once the tasks for this semester are clearly defined, the main committee will form subcommittees, each of which will take on its assigned responsibilities.

Meeting Schedule and Recording Discussion

  1. For the Fall 2024 semester, the next two meetings are scheduled as follows:
  • Wednesday, October 16th, 1:00–2:00 PM
  • Monday, November 18th, 12:00–1:00 PM
