  • Report and recommend to the Academic Senate on matters pertaining to the Library of Queensborough Community College.

  • Serve as an advisory group to the Library Department, that will:
    • consider and advocate for students’ interests in the use of the library and its resources including (but not limited to) the allocation of space, the rules and regulations of use, and the availability of resources.

  • consider and refer to other administrative offices (e.g., Buildings and Grounds, Academic Affairs) issues related to the function and condition of the library building.

  • consider, make recommendations, and advocate for initiatives that build or improve access to the library’s collections.

  • review the current state of pedagogical technologies in the Library and make recommendations to the Library staff and Senate regarding the maintenance and upgrade of these technologies. 

*Not completed but ongoing. The Committee completed the student survey which addressed technologies. The Committee will need to update the faculty survey covering technology, as the use of library technology adjusts post-COVID.

Summary of actions not covered by above

The Library Committee would like to thank Constance Williams, Interim Chief Librarian, for joining the Library Committee meetings and sharing updates from the Library.  

The Library Committee would like to thank Victor Frichera, Office of Institutional Research and Assessment, for offering guidance on the student survey and coordinating its distribution to students.

We would also like to thank the Steering Committee for their support and guidance.

Committee recommendations for upcoming year

Consider updating and redistributing the library faculty survey of needs and priorities, with a focus on library technology.

Advocate for student library needs based on the student survey results.

Continue efforts to understand the scope of possibility for visual improvements to the library entryway.

Individual member contributions and thanks

Emily Pelletier served as chair, organized meetings, communicated with outside offices, and assisted with the student survey.

Elizabeth Sutton served as the secretary; Professor Sutton took meeting minutes.

Jed Shahar led the efforts to distribute the student survey.

Kebedech Tekleab led several discussions on the possible visual improvements to the entryway of the library following the removal of Starbucks.

The entire committee engaged in thoughtful and actionable discussion regarding the role of the library in service to student, faculty, and staff needs.
