- SC suggests that you continue work on developing and publicizing online socializing activities for students and students/faculty. Completed - This was done to the extent that it was in our power to help advertising in largely virtual environment that many of the activities were conducted.
- Continue work on tracking student participation in all activities and means in which they are reached. Incomplete - This was put on hold due to the fact that student activities were still largely held online. Student activities did not take any further action on obtaining a new student activities tracking system so there was no involvement necessary from the Student Activities Committee.
- Add committee-specific information to Committee Guide Addendum in Reports folder in Cascade. Completed.
Summary of actions not covered by above
For the academic year 2022-2023, the committee organized two volunteer fairs: in Fall 2022, the committee hosted an on-campus volunteer fair in the Student Union. Four organizations set up tables and shared information. Due to low attendance by students, the committee organized another volunteer fair in the spring of 2023. Six organizations attended the event which was held in the Quad (Science Building). In addition, we continued to work closely with the SGA in order to make sure that we were able to continue assisting them to further their agenda.
Much of the work for the student activities committee was still difficult to do over the past year as student activities did not return to a traditional on campus presence so communications and tracking has not returned to normal. The committee decided to revisit the idea of surveying students about the best way to facilitate communication about campus events once the college distributed a new application for that purpose. The committee decided to draft the survey in Fall 2023 and distribute the survey in Spring 2024.
Committee recommendations for upcoming year
- The committee recommends the continuation of the annual volunteer fair.
- We will continue to liaise with the SGA to facilitate their platform and goals wherever appropriate.
- Assist the office of Student Affairs and the Service Learning Coordinator with the Majors event planned for the fall semester.
- Survey students about the best way to communicate information regarding campus events and activities.
