Course Description in college catalog:
A history of the German-speaking areas of central Europe with special focus on the time period since 1870. Topics include the first unification, the two world wars, Nazism, the Holocaust, and the contem- porary Federal Republic.

a. Differentiate between primary and secondary historical source material.
b. Identify how historical moments shape perspectives.
2. Students will identify and explain the cause and effect relationships between the major events in German history.

b. Identify relationships between specific historical causes and effects.
3. Students will assess the impact German history had on Western civilization.
a. Define difference between different kinds of change in society.
b. Provide examples of both change and continuity over time in social, political, economic, and cultural history.
