Course Description in college catalog:
This course will continue to develop students’ communicative competence through the study of grammar, acquisition of new vocabulary, and practice of the four language skills – listening, speaking, reading and writing. Cultural material will be introduced in order to broaden students’ understanding and appreciation of Spanish- speaking cultures. Weekly listening, speaking and viewing activities online or in the language laboratory are part of the course.

Upon successful completion of this course, students will be able to:
- Accomplish complex communicative tasks such as identifying characteristics and facts about Hispanic communities

Methods by which student learning will be assessed and evaluated; describe the types of methods to be employed; note whether certain methods are required for all sections:
- Students’ speaking abilities will be assessed by evaluating your level of comprehensibility, and fluency, and your use of vocabulary in completing communicative tasks or oral narrations/presentations.
- Students’ listening comprehension abilities will be assessed by evaluating your understanding of oral messages including advertisements, weather broadcasts, warnings, etc.
- Students’ reading skills will be assessed by evaluating your understanding of newspapers articles, short stories, excerpts from literary passages, and any other authentic reading material.
- Students’ writing skills (including knowledge of grammar) will be assessed by evaluating the level of comprehensibility and lexical/grammatical accuracy of your written samples consisting of descriptions, narrations, or summaries.
