Course Description in college catalog:
Group instruction in voice for both the music major and the community. This courses may not be applied to the liberal arts and sciences core for the A.A. or A.S. degree.

MUS 133 may fulfill music elective requirements for the A.A.S. in Music Production. Curricular objectives addressed by this course are:
- Integrate knowledge and skills in the program of study
- Work collaboratively to accomplish learning objectives
Course-specific student learning outcomes:
1. Through performing vocal exercises, reading, and discussing reading, increase your understanding and ability in areas of singing technique: body alignment and flexibility, breath management, breath energy and core body strength, resonance space and flexibility, register blend and flexibility, vowel formation and clarity, clear tonal onset, and ease in singing through velocity.
2. Advance in vocal expression through song performance and vocal exercise.
3. Demonstrate communication skills through clear giving and receiving of messages
4. Gain confidence and understanding of community involvement through exercise, in-class performance, and community performance.

Grading breakdown
Four evaluations* —10% each
#1 Sing two phrases of song from memory
#2 Sing entire song from memory
#3 Sing another song from memory
#4 Sing both songs from memory
Attendance – 30%
Arrive early, to start on time. Stay until end. Leave classroom only in emergency. Keep phones put away.
Overall class participation – 15%
Participate fully in class activities. Know class exercises. Each week exercises will be assigned from “Course Concepts and Exercises” handout. Post on Discussion Board on Blackboard what assigned exercises are for and how to do them, to earn participation points. Also, do any discussion board assignments or assigned homework.
Assigned reading — 10%
Choose one article on-line each unit to read. Choose articles pertinent to the study of singing. Post 100 word comments about each unit’s reading on Discussion Board blackboard by due date. OR read suggested chapters for each unit (postedunder “class readings”on blackboard) and take short quiz about each chapter on blackboard. Your scores on quizzes earns your reading grade. Class is divided into 4 units. Each unit has assigned reading. Each unit ends on date of evaluation. Quizzes for each unit are due on respective evaluation date.
Concert — 5% (Receive a C or higher only by participating on time in concert).
