From the Honors Program at Queensborough to a Paid Summer Internship at Vanderbilt University
By Yi (Jane) Jiang
Being a Queensborough student for five semesters, I had the opportunity to take honors courses in General Biology I and II, General Chemistry II, Calculus I, as well as an Honors contract in English II. In these honors courses I met many bright and hardworking students. We formed study groups and encouraged each other in addressing complex issues. Most honors courses require some extra work such as research and presentations. This of course asks for an additional time input, but students would build a up close relationship with the professors and even have opportunities to conduct long term research and apply for scholarships or internships. I was introduced to Dr. Sujun Wei by Dr. Paris Svoronos of the Chemistry Department. Thanks to my honors experience, I was selected as a scholar in the CUNY Scholars Program and was fortunate to be selected in a paid REU summer internship at Vanderbilt University last summer. All honors courses helped me decide my major and career path, so I highly recommend them to my fellow students.
