How the Queensborough Honors Program Enabled me to Earn a Paid NSF REU Internship
By Landen Kwan
Taking part in the Queensborough Honors Program made me a more competitive and a better rounded person from the individual I used to be. The Honors Program courses are not only significant for upgrading oneself but also challenging in learning something above the basic course materials. I completed Honors classes of Calculus and Chemistry. There are certainly challenging and more complicated but not overwhelming when compared to classes I am currently taking in post-Queensborough career. As a result of these additional highlights in my resume I was awarded a paid summer National Science Foundation REU internship at Binghamton University in 2015. The experience I had there was the most meaningful and memorable academic related activity I have ever experienced out of the classroom. There I learned new skills such as working with others, communicating ideas, obtaining new knowledge and learning new ways when working in the lab. If there is an opportunity for any Queensborough student to participate in the Honors Program I would not hesitate recommending it.
