How Taking Honors Chemistry Classes Have Changed my Frame of Mind

Although being part of an honors course is a special setting where students with similar mindsets, who are enthusiastic to learn and participate, heighten the learning process of the subject, it is ultimately a battle you are fighting against yourself. General Chemistry II Honors challenged me to think in a way that I have never thought before because Honors course professors do not teach to get the right answers but instead guide us to understand and solve the problems on our own. The importance and value of this mechanism shows the parallelisms of being able to excel in life. What you learn in an honors course within one semester is not only to be contained inside the classroom for merely a semester but instead to be taken with you into your future endeavors. No real life situation is ever the exact same, therefore there is never one “right” answer. The honors class has taught me to be persistent no matter how difficult a challenge may seem. As a result I have been selected to conduct research under Dr. Paul Sideris of the Chemistry Department the findings of which I am penciled to present at several professional conferences.
