Mentoring Students in Mathematics Research
By Dr. Azita Mayeli, Assistant Professor, Mathematics and Computer Science Department
Research is a strong component of a student’s experience and offers undergraduate students at QCC the chance to work side-by-side with leading research professors and professionals in all areas of research. In addition, research, as a major ingredient of honors program, promotes exceptional learning for exceptional learners by enriching students’ learning experience. I have mentored several Honors students in the Department of Mathematics Research Program at QCC. Based on my personal experience, these students learn new skills from this experience that build on the knowledge acquired in the classroom. This opportunity provides an awareness of what takes place in research that is working towards a product. With choosing a research topic carefully, I help my students explore their higher education and academic goals while making a valuable contribution to the college reputation at large.
