Queensborough Biology Professor Lauded for her Mentorship in The Graduate Center's “Sciences Spotlight on Alumna”
Dr. Nidhi Gadura, Professor and Chairperson of the Department of Biological Sciences and Geology at Queensborough is featured in the Graduate Center’s Sciences Spotlight on Alumna. Reporters Jyoti Panta and Joseph Verdi, both Biology doctoral students at The Graduate Center, describe Dr. Gadura as “one of CUNY’s most caring and devoted alumna, integrating her research and her love of science into the classroom and championing the careers of her students as they graduate and take on new opportunities afforded them because of her mentorship”.
Dr. Gadura’s students regularly present their scientific work at national and regional conferences. Among these conferences is the Annual Biomedical Research Conference for Minority Students (ABRCMS), Metropolitan Association of College and University Biologists (MACUB), CUNY Research Scholars Symposium, New York’s American Chemical Society Undergraduate Research Symposium and Queensborough’s Annual Honors Conference.
“Many students have engaged in my molecular biology lab projects,” said Dr. Gadura. “Several of them have won regional and national awards for their scientific presentations even when they were competing with students from senior colleges. These students have gone on to senior colleges and most of them were the first in their families to attend college. By providing students the resources and experiences needed to succeed in STEM, we will be building a stronger and more diverse workforce.”
