Department of Art and Design Receives National Accreditation
The Department of Art and Design at Queensborough Community College has received accreditation from the National Association of Schools of Art and Design (NASAD). Queensborough is one of only 19 community colleges in the country as well as the only art program in the entire City University of New York system to receive this prestigious accreditation. With this Queensborough joins the ranks of New York City’s premier art education institutions such as Cooper Union, School of Visual Arts, Parsons School of Art and Design, Pratt and Fashion Institute of Technology to offer a nationally recognized art and design education.
NASAD was established in 1944 to improve educational practices and maintain a high level of education in art and design; it has approximately 360 institutional members, including Queensborough, and is recognized by the United States Department of Education as the national accrediting agency for art and design programs at colleges and universities in the U.S.
“It is a great honor to be acknowledged by the accrediting agency,” Professor Bob Rogers, Chair of the Department of Art and Design said. “It speaks to the commitment and hard work of the faculty and their dedication to students and learning as well as ongoing support from the administration that has allowed us to build first-class art programs.”
The accreditation process is rigorous, as it examines not only the art programs, but the college itself and the support systems in place to ensure a rich educational experience. The Queensborough Art Gallery and Kupferberg Holocaust Center, which offer world-class exhibitions in addition to hands-on learning opportunities, are significant resources for students seeking to pursue their studies in art at Queensborough.
“Students can now come to Queensborough and enroll in an exceptional two-year Associates Degree art program that, upon completion, can offer them a wide range of transfer opportunities for a fraction of the cost of the private institutions,” Professor Rogers said.
The department offers degree programs in Art, Art History, Digital Art and Design, and Gallery and Museum Studies. Learn more about the Department of Art and Design >>
