Media Innovator Appointed
The Nieman Foundation for Journalism at Harvard has selected Dr. Elizabeth Toohey, assistant professor of English at Queensborough Community College, City University of New York, as a 2020 Knight Visiting Nieman Fellow.
One of only eight media innovators appointed, Dr. Toohey will develop an immersive journalism curriculum model for community colleges. Her work is part of a larger project to explore and advocate for redesigning college composition courses by basing them in media literacy.
Dr. Toohey (pictured) teaches journalism and advises the Queensborough student newspaper, Communiqué. A regular contributor to The Christian Science Monitor, she reviews novels, and nonfiction in women's studies, film and American culture. Her current research focuses on the aftermath of 9/11 in U.S and western European film and fiction.
