Queensborough in My Corner, Always
There was a time when all I wanted was to get my high school diploma so I took the high school equivalency courses. Then I saw that many of my classmates continued to college, and they inspired me to achieve my dream of college. I chose Queensborough for its very beautiful campus and because it is near my home.
I was an ESL student and for a while English remained my biggest challenge. I still remember the video assignment I had my first semester in Business Organization and Management. It took me almost two hours to watch the five minute video, write down the subtitles, answer the questions and check the vocabulary and grammar. It was clear that my academic success would depend on a lot of practice and study so I started to preview the textbooks. When I took in-person classes before the pandemic, I always sat in the first row so I could hear professors’ voices clearly and see the notes more easily. I received tutoring in the Writing Center and, as an ASAP student, I attended many workshops which helped me learn how to use Queensborough’s student resources. This preparation made it easier for me to study online. The synchronous classes allow more interaction with professors and classmates.
Now I am graduating from Queensborough with a degree in Business Administration and will transfer to Baruch College to pursue a bachelor's degree. Each time I move to a higher level, I also meet new challenges but with Queensborough in my corner me I learned it’s not as difficult as I thought to reach my goals. I appreciate the opportunity to learn at Queensborough. Shizhao Tang, ’21, Presidential Award, Associate of Science (A.S.) degree
