Emerging Artists Display their Work—in Person! At the 2022 Annual Juried Student Exhibition
The Queensborough Community College Department of Art and Design and QCC Art Gallery proudly present the 2022 Annual Juried Student Exhibition, opening April 27 from 4:00pm-6:00pm, and will run through June 6. This marks the first official in-person exhibit at the Gallery since the pandemic began more than two years ago.
Despite the many challenges of in-person gatherings and events, the Art Gallery has remained very active during this time, featuring virtual 3D walk-throughs of exhibits, providing virtual internships with Bayside High School students, hosting virtual artist talks, and developing the reinstallation of the permanent collection of the Gallery’s acclaimed traditional African art.
For fourteen years, the highly anticipated Juried Student Exhibition has displayed a broad range of talent from students who are currently pursuing their artistic aspirations.
“By utilizing different methods, mediums and materials these adroit students have created truly absorbing works,” said Faustino Quintanilla, Executive and Artistic Director, QCC Art Gallery and curator of the show. Fifty-five student artists are participating in the show.
Art student Marcus Curry, mentored by Professor Annemarie Coffey, was inspired by the word ascension. “I expanded on the meaning of the word and constructed an ascending cubist portrait of existing images including John Lennon, flowers in the hair, earrings and layered cutouts of eyes and mouths—there is a psychedelic feel to the piece.”
Recent Queensborough graduate Nia Condoleon’s final painting project was a self-portrait in oil. “I have, just by circumstance, painted self-portraits every four years since 2013. It’s interesting to see your growth as a person and as an artist over such a period.” Condoleon said her painting professor, Liz DiGiorgio, was extremely supportive and gave 'fantastic' feedback on her work. “It wasn’t ideal taking a painting class online, but she gave us the best experience possible.”
Deep appreciation goes to Professor Annmarie Coffey who, along with the Department of Art & Design, selected the works for installation. Gratitude is extended to all the faculty and staff of the Department of Art & Design, the QCC Art Gallery and Queensborough's Office of Marketing and Communication for their support.

The QCC Gallery is open Monday-Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm by appointment, and Saturday and Sunday by appointment.
Queensborough Community College Art Gallery’s (QCC Art Gallery) mission is to collect and preserve; present and interpret; educate and motivate; and stimulate new art production that supports the educational and cultural vitality of the College and surrounding community.
