On the Track and Through the Streets, Around the Pond they Ran (or walked!)
More than 50 people from the local community, as well as Queensborough students, faculty, and staff, gathered on the Athletic Field for the first Queensborough Tigers 5K Run/Walk held on May 18 to support Queensborough Athletics and ended on campus for the QCC Day celebration.
The overall winner of the 5K (3.1 miles) was Queensborough student-athlete Renaediaz Miller, with a time of 18:26.00. Miller, an accounting major in his sophomore year was chosen as a 2022 All-Star, the only Community College runner to earn that recognition.
The female overall winner was Christine Pagano, with a time of 23:35.83.
Christine, a full-time professor in the nursing program at Queensborough has been a competitive runner since high school and college, and then continued to race post college. "I coached high school on Staten Island and then coached the men’s and women’s teams at the College of Staten Island for a number of years, so CUNY athletics is close to my heart. I know how important it is to raise funds for the sports teams, so I wanted to contribute by participating in this race.”
Christine has been a nurse for 20 years and has taught nursing at various schools since 2009. "I hope to encourage my nursing students in the upcoming semesters to join me on some run/walks. I ran the NYC Marathon for Queensborough this past fall and raised over $3000 for the College."
The 5K started on the track and went through the streets surrounding campus, around the pond, and eventually back to campus where everyone finished on the track where they started.
