Queensborough Celebrates its Ongoing Work and Successes at the Fifth Annual State of the College Address
The theme for the Fifth Annual State of the College Address, held on Feb. 4, was encapsulated by President Christine Mangino who said, “We are innovating and evolving to meet today’s students' needs and have successes to celebrate. While progress on our five-year strategic plan goals continues, there are milestones we should acknowledge. Faculty and staff are working hard on these goals, and I want to celebrate your hard work."
The occasion opened with good news on the enrollment front.
President Mangino announced that from fall 2024 to spring 2025 (one semester persistence rates) there has been a 9.5 percent increase in total cohort, a 16.2 percent increase in Black men and a 12.3 percent increase in Hispanic men. “Moreover, full-time enrollment (FTE) has risen by nearly 4 percent compared to last year. Our progress is built on the goals we are all working towards and I am extremely grateful for everyone’s dedication to the success of our students.”
President Mangino explained that the College’s priority is to expand student retention by improving their campus experience, with an emphasis on reaching out to international students through supportive services such as Persistence Plus, a technology service that prompts students with messages to help them achieve academic goals, reframe obstacles, seek help from campus resources, and navigate the path to graduation.
The President also shared the significant news that the Professional Staff Congress (PSC) contract was approved by the CUNY Board of Trustees on Dec. 16, retroactive from March 1, 2023, to Nov. 30, 2027.
Vice President of Finance and Administration, Dr. Gissette Forte, updated the campus on the college's budget, facilities, and fiscal management. She expressed her deep gratitude to the facilities team and spoke of the resilience and passion of the College community.
Afterwards, refreshments were served in the Medical Arts Well where colleagues shared their research projects and student support information.
