Search Process
Queensborough has developed a dynamic search process to guide the college's efforts to fill job vacancies. Most vacancies at Queensborough are filled via the collaborative efforts of a search committee, led by a search committee chair. The Office of Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging monitors each search to ensure that the process is conducted in compliance with federal, state, and city laws and in alignment with CUNY's Equal Opportunity and Non-discrimination Policy.
Each search committee is comprised of a diverse group of colleagues, and each member is involved in every stage of the search process.
Committee members collectively:
- Craft job descriptions
- Develop the criteria that will be used to screen applicants
- Evaluate applicant resumes and cover letters
- Select candidates to interview
- Craft interview questions
- Participate in interviews
- Select finalists
Inclusion Representatives
At Queensborough Community College, every search committee includes an Inclusion Representative. Inclusion Representatives are full-time employees who volunteer to receive training and serve on search committees to ensure that searches comply with applicable Equal Opportunity laws and policies, and align with Queensborough’s Strategic Plan equity and inclusion goals.
Representatives participate in every facet of the search process and mitigate bias by noting assumptions, behaviors, or practices that might interrupt the impartial identification and evaluation of candidates. Inclusion Representatives serve as ex officio members of the search committees. Although they are non-voting members, they screen and evaluate every applicant.
Inclusion Representatives
- Attend all meetings and activities related to the search
- Evaluate each applicant
- Ensure consistency from the search committee members in the application of the screening criteria to every applicant
- Monitor the interview sessions for unbiased comments and equitable applicant treatment
- Advise the committee on best practices to promote equity and inclusion
- Update the Chief Diversity Officer periodically on the search committee's progress
