Course Description in college catalog:
This course integrates calculus concepts and covers fundamental principles of physics in areas of wave phenomena, electrostatics, DC and AC circuits, magnetism, electromagnetism, and optics.

Course-specific student learning outcomes:

Use algebra, geometry, trigonometry, and calculus to describe physical situations and to solve physical problems.

Describe and analyze physical situations using graphical representations.

Set up and solve problems involving wave properties, wave speed, the relationship between wave and medium, interference, phasors, and standing waves.

Analyze and determine real world applications of sound phenomena including interference, sound speed, beats, Doppler effect, and shock waves.

Master geometric and wave models of light and apply each model to solve problems.

Define reflection, refraction, interference and diffraction and describe the rules governing each.

Set up and solve problems using the following concepts and their application. Electric Field, Electric Force, Electric Potential, Electric Potential Energy, Gauss’ Law, Ohm’s Law, and Capacitance.

Set up and solve problems involving DC and AC circuits.

Solve problems involving magnetic field, magnetic force, magnetic fields due to currents (including solenoids and toroids), Faraday’s law of induction, and Lenz’s law.

Perform experiments and draw meaningful conclusions from data and present them as part of a clear, well-organized lab report.
