Associate in Science in Biology

The Associate in Science degree program in Biology offers students interested in careers in biological sciences and professional medical fields an opportunity to complete the first two years of study leading to the Bachelor of Science degree.

Associate in Science in Environmental Science

Graduates of the Associate in Science degree program in Environmental Science are prepared for transfer to a four-year college to complete a Bachelor of Science (B.S.) degree that is essential for most types of employment in this field. QCC students will be offered the opportunity to obtain the A.S. Degree with a concentration in Environmental Science.

Associate in Science in Biotechnology

Course study is complemented by hands-on internships and field experiences with local partners such as the FDA, Stony Brook University, and Albert Einstein Medical College.

Associate in Science in Mathematics and Sciences

The AS degree prepares you to transfer with advanced standing to baccalaureate in science programs (BS), leading to careers in science, mathematics, education, computer science, and the health sciences.

Associate in Applied Science in Medical Assistant

The AAS degree will increase your general medical knowledge and administrative skills and will gain proficiency in additional clinical procedures that a typical medical office would employ.

Associate in Science in Public Health

Certificate in Medical Office Assistant

The Medical Office Assistant Certificate program combines medical secretarial skills with study of basic biological principles, public health sciences, and medical office clinical procedures.

Mission Statement

The mission of the Department of Biological Sciences and Geology parallels that of Queensborough Community College: to promote scientific literacy and to provide a quality education for our major and non-major students. The Department offers students numerous choices in biology and geology courses, as well as several degree, certificate and/or transfer programs including biotechnology, environmental science, medical assistant, public health and health sciences. The Department also takes a leading role in promoting the college-wide goals of broadening and deepening an individual's perspective, and of heightening intellectual curiosity and creativity.

NEW POLICY NOTICE:

Three Repeat Policy, Department of Biological Sciences and Geology, Queensborough Community College (effective Spring 2020)

Queensborough Community College students enrolling in any Biology course offered by the Department of Biological Sciences and Geology (effective Spring 2020) will be limited to a maximum of three registrations for any single course. The three-registration limit is regardless of the grade the student has achieved during any of their attempts including F, WU, and FIN. Students who wish to take any course for a fourth time are able to appeal this registration restriction with the Department's curriculum committee and an exception may be granted provided they have a valid documented reason including family or medical leave or financial hardship. This policy does not apply to students enrolled in any Biology courses prior to Spring 2020.

Public Health - Associate in Science degree

In collaboration with the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Dance the Department of Biological Sciences and Geology is proud to announce the NYSED approved Associate in Science degree program in Public Health.

Public health is the science of protecting and improving the health of families and communities through promotion of healthy lifestyles, research for disease and injury prevention and detection and control of infectious diseases. Public Health and related fields is among the fastest growing employment areas in NYC and the nation. Public Health is projected to be among the top 10 majors at the 4-year CUNY colleges.
