Pre-requisites (if any): Students must complete any developmental requirements in English (see Proficiency in Math and English) prior to taking this course.
Co-requisites (if any): BI-301 ; Note: Priority is given to students in the Massage Therapy program. Students must obtain liability insurance.
Course Description in college catalog:
The anatomy of the muscular system and its relationship to the skeleton are studied. Muscle location, attachments, nerve control and blood supply are examined for all regions of the body. Laboratory involves the study of models and the use of palpation to identify body parts.

Understand the relationship of all bones of the body and how they are attached to each other and move at articular joints

Describe the action of all muscles of the body – how they work individually and in groups to produce movement

Understand the physiological processes underlying muscle contraction and nerve stimulation of muscle contraction

Understand the specific locations of muscles origins and insertions on skeletal elements.

Understand the physical relationships of muscles to one another
Methods by which student learning will be assessed and evaluated; describe the types of methods to be employed; note whether certain methods are required for all sections:

Students take three to four lecture exams that are multiple choices in nature covering the theory and substance of the main topics in the course.

Students learn to palpate muscles on partners in the class.

Students take three to four laboratory exams in which they are tested in their identification of muscles and bones on models or on their own or a student-partner’s body.
- Students are required to fill out a Student Workbook in which they fill in blanks regarding labelling of anatomical drawings of muscles, the skeleton and movements. Completing the Student Workbook is a continuing exercise throughout the lab component of this course.
