The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on May 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm - Virtual - Zoom

Committee Members in Attendance:

Arthur Abramov (new member), Rezan Akpinar (Chair), Lyubomir Boyadzhiev, Rondi Davies, Melissa Dennihy (Co-Chair), Kevin Kolack (new member)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 2:05 pm

1. Attendance and welcome new members
   1. Arthur and Kevin introduced themselves. Website is up to date, so new members can familiarize themselves with the Committee’s work and charges.
   2. Thanked committee members leaving the committee: Joanne Chang, Crystal Moscat, Rex Taibu.
2. Reviewed and approved Committee meeting minutes from April 13^th, 2022.
3. Accessibility Committee – SSD student panel – took place on May 6, 2022, 2:30 – 3:30. Went well. Students shared experiences. New faculty awareness. Want to repeat going forward.
4. Survey on Student Evaluation Form of Faculty
   1. Email was sent on 04/25/2022 to the ADC members with a link that is still functioning for Committee members to edit. Reviewed survey (Microsoft Forms) regarding opinion of the student form during meeting. Postponed sending to faculty until next semester.
   2. Discuss email from Ms. Sangeeta – Evaluation of the faculty sample is attached to our email. Evals were sent out May 2nd. Committee felt that instructions weren’t clear that different sections were to have been completed based on instructional modality, but the instructions were not changed in time. The Committee hopes that this can be changed for next semester. Perhaps IT can only send the correct form to students based on the course modality in CUNYFirst. Suggestion from Steering Committee to make it modality-agnostic, but Committee does not think this is possible. Targeting it may be more work for IT, but seems best to garner the most student responses. Having a logic form would keep number of questions limited while keeping them relevant to modality. Multiple instructor format could also be accounted for. This would require initial setup, but then less work to send out the form.
5. SOTL series – concluded April 29.
   We will resume next semester. 31 faculty participated. Maybe everyone on the Committee can moderate one session. Melissa did all 10 and it taxed her efforts. Series was advertised before all presenters were known, so there was some stress involved in making things happen on schedule.
6. Elections – Chairperson, Vice-chair, Secretary.
   Rezan volunteered to continue as Chair. Melisa volunteered to continue as vice-Chair. Kevin volunteered to serve as Secretary. Slate approved by unanimous consent.
