The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on December 15, 2022 at 11:00AM - Virtual - Zoom due to COVID exposure


Committee Members in Attendance:

Present: Arthur Abramov (2025), Rezan Akpinar (2023, Chair), Carlene Byfield (2024), Rondi Davies (2023), Melissa Dennihy (Vice-Chair 2023), Kevin Kolack (Secretary, 2025)

Not present: Lyubomir Boyadzhiev (2024), Jennifer Klein (2024), Danny Mangra (2025)

Present: Michael Pullin (President's designee)

Not present: Mark Ulrich (Steering Committee designee)


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 11:00AM

  1. Attendance
  2. Minutes from September meeting were approved without changes.
  3. Regular meeting time. Club hours are tough. Could not reach consensus. Will decide in Jan. Rezan will send out a survey on Jan 20th.
  4. Survey. Victor Fichera (inst research) said too many surveys going out this semester, so ours is delayed until early Spring 2023.
  5. Old business.

    1. Committee co-sponsored CETL Kolack/Counihan in Nov.

    2. Need another workshop. Pullin will discuss with Meg a late Spring 2023 seminar on Perusall (perusall.com), a social-media-type pdf-annotation tool that also has an AI rating/grading feature.
    3. There was a robust conversation concerning a workshop/conversation on ChatGPT/AI? "Preventative Measures to Combat Plagiarism and use of AI." Members will look for experts in their depts to speak and/or lead a forum.
  6. New business: none.
