  1. Attendance
  2. Minutes from May meeting will be distributed and approved at the next meeting
  3. Discussed Student and Faculty Survey
Akpinar will include them in the annual report from last year to be posted soon.
Good mix of part-time/full-time and 1-7 semesters at QCC. 136 student responses (out of 9,000 sent). More than half reported never filling out a faculty eval form, though Fichera questions whether they understood the question. Students do not appear confident that their eval has an effect on how the course is going to be taught in the future. Students don’t think faculty explain the form to them, but on the faculty survey, faculty questioned whether they were supposed to or not. Faculty do not feel they are kept in the loop on the timeline/process, though they do receive an email. Is the form mobile friendly? Very low participation, yet they’re used by P&Bs for (tenure, sabbatical, etc.) decisions. Should QCC go back to paper for in-person courses?
  4. Workshops for the semester
Student mental health is a big concern. Students are dropping out due to work/family/mental health. JED hasn’t really started on campus. Fletcher-Anthony is giving a series of seminars this semester and will visit department meetings upon request. We could promote those, but they start the day after tomorrow.
Lackner presented results of her thesis project surveying dropouts to the Senate last month. Could be the subject of a faculty-wide seminar. Akpinar will discuss with her.
Faculty suggested another implicit bias seminar. Akpinar will discuss with Kerri-Ann Smith.
  5. Old business
    None.
  6. New business
    None.
Meeting adjourned 12:00PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Kolack
Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs, Secretary
