The meeting was called to order at 12:05PM

  1. Attendance
  2. Review Committee Meeting Minutes November 8th, 2023 and February 13th, 2024- approved with no corrections
  3. Volin presented the evaluation process, including email and the evaluation sent to students. May 2-15 will be the eval period this semester. Perhaps instructors can give 10 min of class time to fill out evals? However, still all classes on one form. Several reminder emails are sent. Response rate (25%) remains consistent with the in-person paper plan of the past. Higher rates of students in individual courses when on paper (but not all faculty handed them out). Now fewer students per course for more courses. Only 36-40 faculty opt out each semester. SPS publicizes results each semester, so that instructors and students can see the (anonymous) results across the campus. The transparency could encourage students to have more faith in them, but would need to be approved by the Senate at QCC. There was some discussion about students who withdraw not having an opportunity to evaluate faculty, as well as students in classes of faculty who opt out. Pullin will check with the Provost about students who withdraw at least 2/3 of the way through the semester getting the evals.
  4. Student / Faculty Survey on Student Evaluation Forms – Finalization
Video to students and surveys to faculty and students to be sent out again shortly.
  5. Additional faculty workshop for student evaluation forms and AI workshops.
Pullin is willing to participate in a faculty workshop on the importance of the eval forms; opportunity for faculty to learn from their students. Unsure how to encourage faculty to attend. Last one (presented by Akpinar/Kolack) was poorly attended. Pullin can send out email from Office of Academic Affairs explaining process and advertising workshop. Time it for a couple of weeks before the eval period this semester. Committee will pick date and arrange with Pullin. Emphasize that faculty can/should discuss them in class, to remind students of the importance and their anonymity. Volin will also attend.
  6. Old business - none
  7. New business
Kolack will reach out to Bejar about HEOs not having access to Brightspace and being left out of usability testing. (e.g., Karlin’s office (acad advising) Need to have TAs trained in the systems since they’re showing new students.)
Next meeting April 9th, hybrid if possible; make effort to move back in person
Meeting adjourned 12:50PM.

Respectfully submitted,

Kevin Kolack
Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs, Secretary
