Meeting Minutes for April 17, 2019

The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on April 17, 2019 at 12:20 pm in S-416


Committee Members in Attendance:

 Tirandai Hemraj-Benny (Chairperson); Rezan Akpinar (Co-chair); David Pham (Faculty); Susan Riekert (Faculty); Ilse Schrynemakers (Faculty); Joanne Cheng (Faculty); Jodi Van Der Horn-Gibson (Faculty); Renee Rhodd (HEO, Secretary); Rex Taibi (Faculty); and Crystal Moscat (HeoA)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:20 pm

1. The minutes of the last meeting were approved.

2. New members were welcomed. The chairperson updated the new members of the committee’s activities.

3. The Student Motivation in the Classroom workshop presented by Dean Pullin on April 10th had an attendance of 21 faculty. Dean Pullin will be sending the PowerPoint via email to the attendees.

4. ADC will be working with CETL and the Academies to offer a workshop on Clickers.

5. A survey was administered on 03/20/2019 to faculty with regards to student evaluations of faculty. 102 faculty completed the survey. 62% are satisfied with the current student evaluation survey.

6. A brief discussion of academic programs and an explanation of what the CUNY BA/BS program entails. Renee explained that the CUNY BA/BS program allows for students to work with faculty mentors (Home School) to design their BA or BS degree using the University (Host School) as their campus. The programs created are usually ones that do not already exist within CUNY.

7. Tirandai’s tenure in the committee has ended. There were elections for the position of Chair, Co-Chair and Secretary.  The new Chair is Rezan Akpinar (Faculty), and the Co-Chair is Renee Rhodd (HEO).  Ilse Schrynemakers (Faculty) is the new Secretary.

8. Tirandai will update the ADC webpage.

Next meeting will be September 4, 2019, from 12:45 pm to 2:00 pm.

The meeting was adjourned at 2 pm.
