The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on February 3rd, 2016, at 1:00 pm in S-418


Committee Members in Attendance:

Yusuf Gurtas (Faulty); Tirandai Hemraj-Benny (Chairperson); Nicole Lopez-Jantzen (Faculty); Neera Mohess (Faculty); Ryan Moore (Faculty); Susan McLaughlin (Secretary); Vazgen Shekoyan (Faculty)


Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 pm

1. Minutes of Dec. 2, 2015, approved.

2. After the last committee meeting, an electronic survey was sent out to the QCC faculty to determine their preference for the following three workshops:

            1. Structuring Feedback to Improve Student Writing

            2. Techniques for Preventing and Detecting Plagiarism

            3. The Rights and Limitations of Academic Freedom

Based on the results of the survey, QCC faculty indicated a preference for Workshop #1: Structuring Feedback to Improve Student Writing.

3. Committee members discussed inviting the following people to speak at the workshop: Kathleen Landy (CETL director) and Jeanne Murley (Writing Center).  Dr. Hemraj-Benny will contact these potential speakers to determine their availability.  If possible, the workshop will be presented sometime in March, 2016.  Dr. Hemraj-Benny will also ask if CETL would be able to provide refreshments for the workshop.

4.  For the remainder of the semester, committee members decided that the committee would meet on Wednesdays at 1:00 pm. The next committee meeting will be on 2nd March, 2016 in S-418 to finalize details for the workshop.

7. Meeting adjourned at 1:30 pm.
