b) Student Development Workshop Series:
Dr. Hemraj-Benny pointed out a specific charge of the ADC from the Steering Committee: “Follow up on Student request/recommendation for “Student Success workshops” (Class management/study habits) (Could this be done with the Student Activities Committee and members, perhaps, of the Counseling departments, as well as a few faculty members?)”
Dr. Hemraj-Benny (ADC) has coordinated with the Science Research Alliance Club and the STEM Academy to offer the following workshops:
How to succeed in your general chemistry class, Friday Feb 10th, 3 pm – 3:30 pm in S-412
Facilitated by Rawlric Sumner, Dr. Tirandai Hemraj-Benny and Dr. Paul Sideris
A workshop on paid summer internship opportunities, Friday Feb 10th, 3:30 pm – 4:30 pm in S-412
Facilitated by Rawlric Sumner, Dr. Sharon Lall-Ramnarine
Dr. Hemraj-Benny (ADC) has also coordinated with the Science Research Alliance Club to offer 12 weekly workshops for General Chemistry I students. These workshops are facilitated by Dr. Tirandai Hemraj-Benny on Fridays at 2 pm to 3 pm in S 416.
4. The specific charges from the Steering Committee was discussed. There was an agreement that additional clarification of the specific charges are needed.
5. Dean Landy provided a few suggestions on how the ADC committee can assist and work in collaboration with CETL in relation to the ADC charges. It was suggested that the committee members promote CETL events at departmental meetings and also periodically survey faculty at departmental meetings on workshop topics faculty would like to obtain more information on.
6. Student evaluation of faculty: Dr. Hemraj-Benny informed the committee members of her meeting with Dr. Emily Tai on Jan 18th 2017. It was concluded that the ADC should initially survey all faculty on campus with regards to their satisfaction of the current student evaluation form. Dean Landy suggested that the ADC committee members visit all departments and survey faculty during departmental meetings. Dr. Hemraj-Benny will send a draft of the survey to the committee members by email.
7. ADC meeting time: Dr. Hemraj-Benny has requested that the meeting time for the ADC meetings be fixed in the future. Based on previous doodle surveys completed by the committee members, Mondays at 12 pm seems to be the most popular time during which members can meet.
8. Dr. Hemraj-Benny will confirm the next meeting based on the results of the survey sent to all members.
9. The meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m.
Respectfully submitted,
Tirandai Hemraj-Benny (Chairperson)
Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs, Secretary
