Meeting Minutes for October 27, 2014

The Academic Senate Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs met on October 27th 2014 at 1:00pm in room H-205

Committee Members in Attendance:

Franca Ferrari-Bridgers (Chairperson), Tirandai Hemraj-Benny (Secretary), Emily Berry (Faculty), Leslie Francis (Faculty), Susan Jacobowitz (Faculty), and Susan McLaughlin (Faculty)

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 12:00 pm

1. Minutes of September 29th, 2014 meeting was approved.

2. Franca Ferrari-Bridgers, who attended the senate meeting, informed the committee that the duties of the Committee on Academic Development/Elective Academic Programs is to propose ideas for workshops that can assist faculty development. It is not the duty of this committee to actually offer the workshops.

3. The Committee further discussed the possibility to offer a workshop titled: “How faculty can incorporate campus events (workshops, presentations and exhibitions) into their curriculum”.

   • Dr. Ferrari-Bridgers will email the chairs of the departments to obtain a list of events which will be offered in 2015.

   • Dr. Jacobowitz offered to arrange the events by Academy.

   • In the spring 2015 semester, a workshop will be offered where faculty who have incorporated campus events into their curriculum will present and discuss their experiences.

   • A list of campus events for fall 2015 will be distributed in summer 2015.

   • The committee also discussed means of tracking students’ attendance at these events.

   • The committee members drafted a rationale for this event/workshop.

   • Franca Ferrari-Bridgers will contact CETL for possible involvement with this workshop.

4. Next Meeting:
   Monday, 1st December, 2014 at 1:00 pm.

Meeting was adjourned at 1:05 pm.
