The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m.

  • The Provost is concerned the proposed changes to the bylaws of the CEWD committee would reduce the role or oversite of the OAA with respect to the work of the CEWD. We also worry items could get to the senate before they are seen by a relevant chair.
  • There is some confusion because the CEWD is a committee requesting the bylaw change. However, there is also a university department that has the same name. In the CUNY bylaws, the CEWD office does not have the same reporting responsibilities as other departments.
  • The consensus is to not approve the current request by the CEWD committee. The Bylaws committee resolved to send the request back to the CEWD committee so they can reword the proposed changes to their bylaws. We suggest they work with the department chairs and the OAA to find the right wording that includes department chairs in the approval of their work. Subsequently, they should resubmit to the updated bylaws to bylaws committee.

Respectfully submitted,

Rondi Davies
Committee on Bylaws, Secretary
