Business:

The meeting was called to order at 1:00 p.m.

  • Dr. Pecorino discussed the history of the work of the Continuing Education Program and the reason there is a need to involve academic departments in decisions that they make. This explains why the language for the committees charges are the way they are. The current proposed changes diminishes the connection between continuing education and academic departments.
  • Rommel shared information from the CUNY bylaws about how new credit bearing courses are vetted by faculty, chairs, and the provost. The senate also has approval over these matters. However, Continuing Education does not have their programs vetted in the same manner as they are not a credit bearing program. They also have their own funding.
  • Sujun reached out the Steering Committee to find out what happens if we approve or deny a request. A denied request that is appealed is handled by the Steering Committee.
  • Next steps are to meet with the Provost on this issue. Mangala will reach out to her.

Respectfully submitted,

Rondi Davies
Committee on Bylaws, Secretary
