Re: Committee on Environment, Quality of Life, and Disability (EQLD) Bylaws Amendment Proposals for Academic Senate Consideration

PROPOSAL 1:
WHEREAS, the Environment, Quality of Life and Disabilities Issues Committee seeks to add a preamble to its Bylaws Charges to fully encompass the spirit of its operations;
WHEREAS; the Committee on Bylaws approved this amendment on November 1, 2023;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: a new statement reading as below be added at the beginning of all the EQLD charges:
The Committee on Environment, Quality of Life and Disability Issues dedicates its efforts to addressing matters related to these essential areas:
PROPOSAL 2:
WHEREAS, Charge #4 of the Committee on Environment, Quality of Life, and Disabilities Issues currently reads as follows:
Review and report on College Master Plan regarding facilities and the campus environment;
WHEREAS, the EQLD Committee seeks to update its Bylaws Charges to more precisely reflect the circumstances under which it operates;
WHEREAS, the EQLD Committee has been called on in the past to approve the renaming of campus facilities, including the recently named Lucille A. Bova Food Pantry;
WHEREAS, the Committee on Bylaws approved these changes at their November, 2023 meeting;
BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the EQLD Committee Bylaws charges be amended to read as follows:
Participate when commissioned to review and report on College Master Plan regarding facilities and the campus environment including naming and renaming of facilities
PROPOSAL 3:
WHEREAS, Charge #5 of the Committee on Environment, Quality of Life, and Disabilities Issues currently reads as follows:
Review the assessment of the campus with regard to services for students with disability issues as the assessment relates and pertains to the campus environment and campus facilities and make appropriate recommendations to the Academic Senate.
WHEREAS, the phrase "accessibility issues" added alongside "disability issues," in the committee charges will indicate a broader commitment to ensuring the campus environment is accessible to all, not just students with disabilities, reflecting a commitment to inclusivity and diversity;
WHEREAS, the Committee on Bylaws approved this change at its November, 2023 meeting;
THEREFORE BE IT RESOLVED THAT: the aforementioned charge #5 shall now read as follows:
Review the assessment of the campus with regard to services for students with disabilities and accessibility issues as the assessment relates and pertains to the campus environment and campus facilities and make appropriate recommendations to the Academic Senate.
