CCAR Committee Meeting:

Date: Wed. April 17, 2024

Room: QPAC Lobby

Meeting started at 11:10 am

Present: Jessica Prepetit (chair), Faustino Quintanilla, Susan Agin, Aviva Geismar, John Talbird, Julia Rothenberg, David Pham (secretary – present via Zoom)

  • One of the main goals of the meeting was to nominate and vote on a new chair and secretary for 2024-2025. Unfortunately, there were not enough CCAR committee members to form a quorum for the nomination and voting process.  For this reason, the CCAR committee has scheduled a new meeting for May 9, 2024 from 9am-10am (which would be via Zoom).  The minutes from the March 6, 2024 meeting would also be approved at the May 9 meeting.
  • Susan Agin received a message from Marisa Hollywood (the representative from the KHC) informing the committee that she would not be able to attend the meeting due to a doctor’s appointment which required further testing.
  • Susan Agin informed the committee that several activities were happening at QPAC during the meeting that may require her attention. Consequently, this may possibly require Susan to leave the meeting for a short time and then return.
  • Susan Agin reported that QPAC was nearing the end of the season with approximately 10 days left. This remaining time would be filled with a few weekend professional performances  as well as the Children’s Book Club and Performance Series which would take place during the week in the morning.  As a way of giving back to the community and drawing attention to QCC, QPAC would also be holding eleven free concerts which would take place throughout the borough.  Susan also noted that the theater would be heavily rented in May and June for graduation, dance recitals, and other community events.
  • Faustino reported that the student exhibitions at the Art Gallery had been completed and are ready for graduation day. Faustino also reported that the Art Gallery will soon acquire an exhibit from Mexico.  In September and October of 2024, there will also be a very thought provoking exhibit on the death penalty.  The exhibit consists of interviews with 400 inmates.  Susan Agin noted that QPAC and the Art Gallery have submitted an application to the Queens Delegation (which is made up of all of the council members from Queens) for funding a joint project on the topic of `cultural collision’.  This marks the first collaboration between QPAC and the Art Gallery.
  • Faustino will soon send the committee information on future Art Gallery exhibitions coming in September 2024.  This information will be included in the CCAR Committee’s end of the year report.
  • Julia Rothenberg expressed interest in serving as chair of the CCAR committee for 2024-2025.

The meeting was adjourned at 11:50 am.

Respectfully submitted,

Jessica Prepetit
