The Academic Senate Committee on Senate Committee on Cultural and Archival Resources met on February 26, 2019 12:15-1:45 (H447)

The meeting was called to order at 12:15pm
Meeting called to order.
Minutes from November 12, 2018 approved.
Reports from cultural center directors:
- Welcoming Laura Cohen, the new KHC director. Upcoming KHC events include: three colloquium events, three films, the annual seder and Yom HaShoah commemoration. The Fall 2019 exhibition will build on survivance on Turtle Island. Call for curator-in-residence proposals coming up.
- QPAC - Going into communities served by the theater: first off-site performance (Lexington Center, Jackson Heights) held in January. QPAC renovations underway, to continue for at least 18 months. Funding requests to Queens council members completed.
- Art Gallery: preparing a student exhibition (March 7); African Art exhibition currently on view; Diversity exhibition planned for April/May; preparing the permanent collection and planning a book about it; working with La Sorbonne and institutions in South Africa to write comments about the pieces in the collection; finalizing Goya exhibition for April/May 2020 (funded in part by Spanish government); presenting a series of films that focus on artists and communities; working with QCC Department of Languages and Department of Architecture and Design on current and future film series; two photography books published.
Chairperson’s report:
CAR Committee’s webpage: pdfs of past agendae and minutes, annual reports, and the brochure have been uploaded; committee members and committee charges sections have been updated. Web URL will be shortened at some point.
Discussion/Ideas for the Teaching Resources tab: downloadable reflection template, syllabi, assignments, links to articles/lib guides/cultural centers, video testimonies of faculty commenting on how they utilized the centers (ADA compliant), HIP rubrics, ways to engage in cross-disciplinary collaboration.
Promotion on Twitter – for ex. connecting a resource on our website to an event. Discussion of pros and cons to be continued with Marketing representatives.
Election to be held at next meeting. Kathleen Landy and Marketing representatives will be in attendance.
Review of tasks in anticipation of the CAR Committee’s annual report (all committee members): summary of art acquisitions, summary of impact of website changes on promotion of cultural events, summary of committee’s recent/new initiatives.
