  • New and current committee members introduced themselves.
  • Jessica gave an overview of the charges of the CCAR as it relates to QCC’s three cultural centers: KHC, QPAC, and the Art Gallery.
  • Minutes from the March 6, 2024 and April 17, 2024 meetings were approved.
  • Jessica asked the representatives from the cultural centers to update the committee on any new activities or news.
  • Faustino (from the QCC Art Gallery) reported that very little had changed since the last meeting. Faustino noted that he had not yet sent the committee information on the Death Penalty exhibition and plans to do that today. Faustino also reported that the student exhibitions were nearing completion and that the QCC Art Gallery was in the process of trying to acquire various African works of art as a permanent collection.  This new exhibit is expected to be completed by Spring 2026.
  • Marissa (from the KHC) reported that the KHC had their last public program on Monday. The program discussed a new documentary film about an artist.  At about 18 years old, the artist was sent to Europe as a solider in the final days of World War 2 where he guarded Nazi war criminals as they awaited trial.  In the film, the artist explains that he was traumatized by being in the presence of such evil people.  This experience lead the soldier to create very chaotic art work.   Marissa also provided links to various information on the KHC website (including archival information and information on new exhibits on the concentration camp system) for the committee.  Marissa also reported that four of the KHC’s current interns presented research that they had conducted during the semester at the Spring Student Symposium.
  • Jessica called for a vote to select a new chair and secretary for the committee.
  • Faustino reminded the committee that Julia Rothenberg was interested in one of the two positions. Jessica recalled that Julia was interested in serving as chair.
  • After some discussion, John Talbird formally nominated Julia Rothenberg for the position of chair.
  • Brigitte Tilley volunteered to serve as secretary of the CCAR committee.
  • Faustino formally nominated Brigitte for secretary of the CCAR committee.
  • The committee voted unanimously for Julia Rothenberg for the new chair and Brigitte Tiley for the new secretary for the CCAR committee for the 2024-2025 academic year.
  • Quintis Pinder asked whether the CCAR meetings were always by Zoom. Jessica replied that meetings were hybrid (sometimes in-person and sometimes online).

The meeting was adjourned at 9:36 am.

Respectfully submitted,

   Jessica Prepetit
