WORKFORCE DEVELOPMENT COURSES & PROGRAMS

Summer and Fall 2021

• Software Engineering: In partnership with the Department of Engineering Technology, CEWD has been offering Software Engineering Micro-Credential Career Track in Web Development Boot Camps, which are designed to provide learners passionate for a career in Software Engineering to quickly develop highly in-demand web development skills, including programming languages, tools and technologies to succeed in front end and back end development, as well as full stack development. This intensive Boot Camp immerses learners in a 100-hour online, synchronous development environment, contextualized to Software Engineering Industry/employer standards, over a condensed, five-week time frame, and is led by Department of Engineering Technology faculty, Software Engineering Industry experts and Instructors. The course is limited to 25 students for each cohort. Students who commit to successfully completing this course gain the knowledge and skills to apply for both internships and employment opportunities, which is facilitated by our p/t Job Developer. By the end of the program, students demonstrate personal portfolios and a group project that spans the entirety of full stack application. In addition to the Software Engineering micro-credential, students also receive micro-credentials in 21^st century workplace skills such as leadership, critical thinking, resilience, communication and collaboration. These skills are embedded in the project-based learning through the course and through additional workshops. Career Panels focus on employer expectations such as business process, user interaction, documentation, communication, consultative skills and end-to-end application management. Through our New York Jobs CEO Council training grant, over 100 students have completed this training course so far and more will be participating in this program with the second round of funding beginning this summer. Through our CUNY ACE Upskilling Opportunity grant, we will be offering six cohorts of 25 students each between May 2021 and March 2022, for a total of 150 students.

• Amazon Web Services (AWS) Academy Cloud Computing Certifications:
• Through funding from the NYS Department of Education’s Perkins Grant, CEWD is offering the following AWS Academy Cloud Computing courses this spring:
• AWS Developer Associate Certification + AWS Big Data + Machine Learning Specializations-45 hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays, March 16th-May 4th, 1-4 pm

• AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate Certification-45 hours: Tuesdays & Thursdays, May 11th-June 29th, 1-4 pm

Over 500 students are enrolled in these courses which, collectively, can lead to six AWS Industry Certifications including:

2. AWS Solutions Architect Preparation Certification
3. AWS Big Data Certification
4. AWS Machine Learning Certification
5. AWS Certified Developer Associate Certification
6. AWS Certified SysOps Administrator Associate Certification

• Through the Capital One Foundation grant, CEWD will be offering the AWS Cloud Computing Fundamentals Certification Preparation course to up to 50 11^th and 12^th grade high school students this summer.

• Certified Recovery Peer Advocate (CRPA) Program: Through funding from The New York Community Trust and NYC corporations, QCC will be offering the CRPA program to two cohorts of 25 students each, starting in May 2021. QCC created, designed and implemented this program in 2016, through initial funding by the NYC Department of Small Business Services (SBS)/New York Alliance for Careers in Healthcare (NYACH), and has successfully educated and certified almost 100 learners as CRPA’s in cohorts 1-5, with a 90% completion rate. Certified Recovery Peer Advocates (CRPA’s) are individuals who have been certified to provide coaching, support, information, guidance, and motivation to those seeking or sustaining recovery from a substance use diagnosis.  To ensure proper learning in areas of addictions and recovery, QCC designed a non-credit to credit model, combining the non-credit CRPA course and the 3-credit HE 104: Addictions & Dependencies course through the Health, Physical Education and Dance Department. In addition to the 45-hour 3-credit course, students receive an additional 46 hours of training in the 4 CRPA Domains: Advocacy, Ethical Responsibilities, Mentoring & Education and Recovery & Wellness. Upon successful completion of the program, students then take the IC & RC Certified Recovery Peer Advocate exam. CRPA Internship and Job Placements are facilitated by a Job Developer/Career Counselor. A comprehensive suite of wraparound services, including individual and group career and academic counseling, Career Development Workshops and Computer Literacy Workshops, assist CRPA students in successfully completing the CRPA exam and being placed into CRPA positions in hospitals, treatment centers and health care centers in New York City.

• Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) Training Program: Through a NYC Department of Youth & Community Development (DYCD) grant, CEWD is offering the Certified Hemodialysis Technician (CHT) Training Program to 12 students. We have been offering this program since 2016, which trains students to work in Outpatient Hemodialysis facilities. Students receive 144 hours of instruction towards a BONENT certification and comprehensive wraparound services, including individual and group counseling and advisement, Career Development and Internship/Job Placement assistance.

• Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) Training Program: This 120-hour New York State certified CNA program is being offered to students this spring, and will be offered this summer and fall. This certification is offered in partnership with the Nursing Department, with a Credit for Prior Learning (CPL) Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) in progress to facilitate non-credit to credit pathways. There is an increased need for educated and skilled Nursing Assistants. This program gives students an excellent opportunity to acquire the necessary occupational skills required for C.N.A.s. The CNA profession is ideal for people seeking flexible hours working in nursing homes, hospitals, doctors' offices and health care facilities. The program includes anatomy and physiology, fundamentals of patient care and clinical experience in a residential health care facility.
