The Academic Senate Committee on Committee on the Environment, Quality of Life, and Disability Issues met on Wednesday, May 3, 2023 hybrid


Committee Members in Attendance:

Noelia Diaz, Yusuf Gurtas, Changiz Alizadeh, Tanya Zhelezcheva, Edward Diller, Mohammad Javdan, Parisa Assassi, Jillian Bellovary, Janet Franzese


Liaisons in Attendance:

Business:

The meeting was called to order at 3:00 PM

 

  1. Approval of Minutes for March 3, 2023 meeting
  • The minutes were approved.
  1.   Updates:
  • William Faulkner agreed that any new COVID cases will continue to be reported. CUNY will follow the CDC guidelines.
  • Mr. Faulkner informed the committee regarding the ADA compliance of the bathrooms and how the campus would continue to expand on the single bathroom design in an effort to accommodate more students. Prof. Diaz asked the specifics regarding the signs of the various types of bathrooms. Braille signage is being contracted out. Joe Cartolano, Buildings and Grounds, addressed many questions on the infrastructure of the building. 
  • David Summers from AHRC New York City offered a presentation about the Mellissa Riggio higher education program which will be offered at QCC beginning in the Fall of 2023.

Peer mentors are usually QCC students trained by AHRC

  • The committee voted on the revisions of the College Master Plan.
  • Tanya Zhelezcheva discussed the Addendum and some modifications that the committee deemed were necessary.

 

Childcare Center

  • Mr. Faulkner informed the committee that the drawings for the childcare center were at 100 percent. CUNY is examining them. There will be a search for the Director of the childcare center and because there will be a bid process the actual building of the center may take until the Spring of 2024. Mr. Faulkner also informed the committee that the childcare center will be able to accommodate 60 infants/children. An observatory and full kitchen, bathrooms for adults and infants will be provided. There will be a waiting list for students and a certain number of spots will be saved for staff. Twenty percent of the spots will be reserved for the staff. whether other 

Motion to adjourn brought up by Tanya Zhelezcheva. Noelia Diaz seconded.
