The December 15, 2021, and February, 2022 meeting Minutes were approved by the committee.

Old Business

  • Discussion regarding limiting hot ticket items and which items to limit, as it is difficult to monitor when students are browsing the pantry
  • The continues to be sound coverage, as there are many more volunteers to cover pantry hours
  • As part of Dr. Call’s donation, there is intent to purchase personal hygiene items, additional discussion to follow at the beginning of Fall semester
  • We are hopeful that the program offered by the Petrie Foundation will be renewed
  • Anyone willing to donate toward this cause can contact Ashlie who will purchase personal hygiene items that students rely and are in need of

New Business

  • The number of students visiting the pantry were high, upwards of 800 students, reaching pre-pandemic numbers
  • Summer schedule to include those willing to commit to certain days and hours, even if limited
  • Continue to recommend students in need of more help than pantry can provide, to the Advocacy Resource Center (ARC)
  • The Chancellor was extremely impressed with the Food Pantry while visiting QCC, and visited with Ashlie and students. Amaris Matos offered to help and visited for a short time, thank you to all that participated
  • Recommendation made to ensure training for non-committee members, including students, on pantry protocols; Sara Danzi suggested that guidelines be established for what needs to be done; possibly plan an orientation and/or Food Pantry welcome in the Fall
  • Food Drive to take place tomorrow May 12th, 163 bags were packed, 106 responses; since there is on campus presence there may be additional traffic
  • Suggestion to promote the Food pantry at the Welcome Fair scheduled for September 28th during Club hours by scheduling a distribution event
  • Share resources with students like the free book on how to eat on a few $ a day as a PDF
  • Data to be collected to quantify the services being provided to students
  • Approximately 27 bags were distributed from the reference Library desk, which is a convenient way for students to get pantry items then pantry is closed or when classes are not in session
  • Stephen Spezio offered to provide the same service as the Library reference desk from the Student Learning Center
