Food Insecurity Meeting via Webex

Wednesday May 6, 2020 5 PM - 6 PM

  • Tai asks the committee to review the annual report for self-governance.
  • Tai asks what kind of constructive involvement can the committee do if/when we go online in the fall? Or if the campus has to go on lockdown in the foreseeable future?
  • Kerr informed the committee that he and Ronni Weprin handed in the renewable Petri application/contract and that they are working with Single Stop for cash vouchers. Could the committee consider supermarket vouchers? [no cigarettes or alcohol]. There is roughly $18,000 left in food pantry funds to spend.
  • Kerr informed the committee that Vice-President William Faulkner will be asking President Lynch to ask the CUNY chancellor for a status update on the new cafeteria.
  • Tai suggests the committee consider local partnerships (food pantries, markets), perhaps discounts for students and to partner with faculty research and service learning.
  • Tai mentioned that student leadership has been absent in this year’s meetings, and for the committee to work with their schedule in the next year.
  • Tai asked the committee to consider moving back to a seven-member committee or to keep the nine-member group.
  • Cornick asked if the committee could have a better understanding of how students are structuring their days so the committee can meet their needs.
  • Welcome new members on the committee.
  • Motion to start election for new chair.
  • Jonathan Cornick elected unanimously as new chair.
  • Tai asked the question of how PTK will function in the fall.
  • Kerr stated that work needs to be done to engineer limited attendance on campus in the fall. Deliveries to the pantry will continue. Dr. Kerr has been unpacking, organizing, and collecting data recently. Dr. Tai will be available to organize the PTK with food delivery unpacking.
  • Election for new secretary: Ashlie Klepper, unanimous

Respectfully submitted,

Kathleen Alves
